Where the HELL is that Comcast technician? Finally – an app for that

Choosing a cloud hosting partner with confidence

US cable giant Comcast is offering some subscribers an app that tracks the whereabouts of its technicians before they arrive for a service appointment. So if you're waiting around for ages wondering where he or she is, there'll be a light at the end of the tunnel.

The ISP said its MyAccount app, available on iOS and Android devices, would soon add the real-time tracking feature.

According to Comcast, it will activate when the technician reports in as being 30 minutes away within the target two-hour appointment period. Users will then be able to track the technician's vehicle on a map to better gauge where they are.

Currently, Comcast is testing out the feature in the Boston area. No date for a full roll-out has been given.

"Customers with scheduled appointments will be alerted through our App when our technician is about 30 minutes away from arriving at their house, and will be able to track this technician's progress on a map," Comcast said.

"We're hoping this will prevent our customers from just needing to sit at home and wait. They can check the app from the office, or wherever they are, and head home when they see we're on our way."

A bit of work on the customer service front certainly wouldn't hurt Comcast. Earlier this year a survey ranked Comcast as having one of the worst customer service ratings of any business in the country.

The bad press only continued for Comcast when one of the company's call-center reps was caught on tape verbally accosting a fella who wanted to cancel his subscription. ®
