Internet Security Threat Report 2014
Mobile giant Vodafone has reportedly been mulling over a number of takeover plans, including the possibility of scooping up cable company Liberty Global – Virgin Media's owner.
According to Reuters, which cited five anonymous sources close to the matter, Vodafone could see Liberty Global's European operations as a natural fit for its business in a move to beef up the company's broadband ambitions.
Cable Cowboy John Malone bought UK ISP Virgin Media in early 2013.
The news wire added that Voda had approached Liberty Global to discuss inking a possible deal earlier this year, but it was apparently scuppered by differences over the price tag.
It's also been claimed that Vodafone has considered moving in on budget telco TalkTalk. But such a buyout would be seen as a less attractive option, given its reliance on BT's infrastructure. ®
