A number of Virgin Media broadband customers have been cut off due to a firmware update cock-up, The Register can reveal.
Customers using the company's Super Hub 1 services were affected by the outage at the beginning of the weekend, with the company saying it is "working to resolve the problem".
However, it is unclear how many customers have been affected. One source was told by a Virgin engineer that all Super Hub 1 customers - up to 13,000 people - were cut off, although a Virgin Media Business mouthpiece said the number affected was "small".
This is the second time in two months such an outage has occurred, with customers reporting similar problems at the end of October.
The source said the only compensation currently being offered to customers is the chance to leave mid contract.
A Virgin Business Media spokesperson said: “We are aware of an issue affecting a small number of our Business Broadband (Super Hub 1) product customers and are working to resolve it as soon as possible.”
Virgin Media Business supplies internet and telephony services to both B2B and residential customers, totalling around five million people.
Last year the division's profits plummeted by 90 per cent, to £1.4m, "primarily due to an increase in administrative expenses", according to a Companies House filing. ®
