Google pulls out of Blogger smut black hole

Google is backing down on its threat to tug filthy porno pics and raunchy grumble vids off Blogger.

The advertising giant on Thursday said it will continue to allow randy netizens to post amateur smut, reversing an earlier decision forbidding X-rated blog posts unless they were deemed arty and acceptable to Mountain View's censors.

Educational posts would have escaped the blog burning, but everything else would have disappeared from public view. Today, Google has done a full 180 on banishing titillating blogs.

"We’ve had a ton of feedback, in particular about the introduction of a retroactive change (some people have had accounts for 10+ years), but also about the negative impact on individuals who post sexually explicit content to express their identities," said Google social product support manager Jessica Pelegio.

"So rather than implement this change, we’ve decided to step up enforcement around our existing policy prohibiting commercial porn."

That means you're free to spread your nude snaps, just "don't create blogs that contain ads for or links to commercial porn sites." And you must mark your racy posts as "adult content," which will thrust an adults-only warning at visitors.

And bloggers have to abide by Google's content rules, which outlaw hate speech, child abuse, harassment, anything that depicts or encourages rape, incest, bestiality, or necrophilia, and so on. So now you know. ®
