The Blackberry struck the first blow, but eventually those multi-page day planners were all but completely replaced by modern smartphones. However, they might have finally found a way to claw their way back into relevancy with these replacement day planner pages that are actually functional solar panels, letting you charge your smartphone when left out in the light.
Set to be demoed at CES next week for the first time, the Solar Page features a couple of compact solar panels that can be clipped into a day planner, generating up to five watts of power depending on the available light. It even includes a pop-out Lightning or microUSB port letting you directly connect a smartphone, and its creators claim it can fully charge an iPhone 6 in as little as two-and-a-half hours.
There's no word on pricing or availability just yet, or if the panels come with their own day planner. But the good news is that they'll work just as well while sitting flat on your desk. So if you tossed your day planner years ago, there's (thankfully) no reason to have to buy a new one.
