Small Plane Lands On Highway In New Jersey

WEST MILFORD (WABC) --

A small airplane landed on a highway in New Jersey Thursday afternoon.

The plane, a 1976 Cessna C150 fixed-wing single-engine, landed on Route 23 in West Milford around 1 p.m. and is intact.

No injuries were reported, and the pilot was the only one on board at the time.

Andrew May was driving a truck on Route 23 when the plane landed. He spoke with Eyewitness News about the experience.

"The plane just came up, and it almost felt like the plane hit us," he said. "That's how close it was. Thank God it didn't."

May said the pilot glided the plane to the highway, moving with traffic, after suffering engine failure that caused the plane to lose power.

The plane's right wing struck a street sign, May said, and then the pilot pulled off to the side of the road.

"He did an really good job landing the plane," May said. "So kudos to him."

May checked on the pilot and said he was understandably shaken, but not injured.

"I'm still in disbelief," he said. "I'm very thankful to be alive."

The plane is registered to a man from Paramus.

The incident is under investigation.
